As one of America’s leading consumer trend-watchers and analysts, Phil Lempert is recognized on television, radio and in print. For twenty plus years Phil has served as food trends editor and correspondent for NBC News’ Today show, reporting on consumer trends and showcasing new products, as well as regular appearances on ABC’s The View, FOX Business, Dr. Oz, The Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20, CNN, CNBC, FOX, as well as on local television morning and news programs throughout the country. For almost two decades, he hosted the syndicated show Shopping Smart on the WOR Radio Network  and now co-hosts the weekly Lost in the Supermarket podcast on iTunes.

Phil Lempert was one of the pioneers of the new information media, founding SupermarketGuru.com in 1994. The website is now one of the leading food and health resources on the Internet, visited by more than 9 million people each year. SupermarketGuru.com offers thorough food ratings, analyzes trends in food marketing and retail, and features health advice, unique recipes, nutrition analysis, allergy alerts and many other resources to help consumers understand their food, health, lifestyle and shopping options.

Phil is the founder and editor of The Lempert Report and SupermarketGuru.com. He has been profiled and interviewed by USA Today, The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Newsweek and Ad Age, and is interviewed by hundreds of publications each year. He is also a columnist for Forbes.com.

He has served on the Executive Committee of Michelle Obama's Chefs Move to School program. He is the founder and CEO of the Retail Dietitians Business Alliance; and has developed and manages Foodservice@Retail: The Great Grocerant educational program for the National Restaurant Association, developed the Most Innovative Product Awards for the National Confectioners Association, developed the Supermarket Chef Showdown for the Food Marketing Institute, created and managed the Spud Nation Throwdown Competition for the National Potato Council and hosts and developed the New Product Awards for the Fresno Food Expo. He also serves on numerous boards including: Sial Innovation Jury, and the Seminis, Ingenuity, Foreager and Betterer Foods Advisory Boards.

Lempert is the author of Being the Shopper and Healthy, Wealthy & Wise. His previous books include: Phil Lempert’s Supermarket Shopping & Value Guide, Top Ten Trends for Baby Boomers and Crisis Management: A Workbook for Survival. He is currently working on his next book which will be published by John Wiley & Son this fall: Disrupting the Food Business: Silicon Valley Culture and the Food Business.

Phil Lempert graduated from Drexel University with degrees in Marketing and Retail Management and did his Post-Graduate studies at Pratt Institute. He worked at McDonald’s and Howard Johnson’s before joining his family’s food brokerage firm. Lempert went on to create Lempert Advertising, a full-service, award-winning advertising agency that specialized in food and retail branding, marketing and public relations.

A resident of California, Lempert’s roots are in the Belleville, New Jersey dairy farm started by his grandfather. The family food tradition carried on through his father’s work as a food manufacturer, distributor and broker and then to Phil Lempert, The Supermarket Guru®.

Kathy started checking those supermarket shelves and attending food trade shows with Phil back in 1983. A working Mom with 3 daughters and an always hungry husband, Kathy makes sure that our visitors, readers, listeners and viewers are on top of the latest trends on radio and television.
Checking out the latest products sounds like a fun job and it is, most of the time. There have been some of those "misses" like Bing Crosby's Ice Cream, Dennis Rodman's Lolly Pops and Billy Beer that she wishes she never heard of!

Sally Eckels

Sally Eckels, SupermarketGuru Daily Insights and RDBA Weekly Managing Editor and co-host of the Lost in the Supermarket podcast.
Sally Eckels came to Consumer Insight with a diverse background from music and television to teaching. After moving to Los Angeles from Georgia and working as a media specialist for elementary and middle school students, Sally met Phil and is now working as managing editor of Coffee Chat News, Food Nutrition and Science and Facts, Figures and the Future newsletters. Amanda Rubizhevsky

Amanda Rubizhevsky, Columnist, Researcher and Public Health Advocate
Amanda comes on board with a Masters Degree in Public Health Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She spent time in The Gambia conducting research focused on sun exposure and Vitamin D in women of a small rural sustenance farming village. Amanda is passionate about sharing her knowledge of nutrition and exercise as she feels this is the key to disease prevention and wellness. Amanda also has experience as a community organizer teaching disadvantaged teenage girls in Washington DC the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. In addition, Amanda loves great food, a good party, and is taking full advantage of the diversity of activities that Los Angeles has to offer. Al Heller

Al Heller, Contributing Editor
Retail and health care journalist and touch-football quarterback, Al is the co-author of books Consumer-Centric Category Management (Nielsen/Wiley) and The Passive Solar-Dome Greenhouse (Garden Way), Al has written numerous industry reports and other books, and has earned awards for his editing of food, drug and mass channel magazines. His dad turned a small knish shop into a NYC landmark, and exposed Al to food operations early. Al has coached youth basketball and baseball; donates to blood services and disease charities; and has parasailed in Mexico and helicoptered over live Hawaiian volcanoes. Tony Kucenski

Tony Kucenski, Director Of New Media & Executive Producer
Tony Kucenski began his career with an early interest in audio recording and postproduction and soon learned all aspects of audio and video editing, graphics, and production. He's worked as a picture editor and sound editor on more than a hundred film and video productions. With many years experience as a key member of multiple post-production facilities Tony's knowledge is extensive and in recent years he has concentrated on producing. Amy Goldsmith

Amy Goldsmith, Senior Director, Editorial and Strategic Communications
For more than 10 years Amy has been a member of the SupermarketGuru team doing a little bit of this and a lot of that including writing, research, new business opportunities and sometimes just managing Phil. Her favorite role is attending the various food shows and scouring the aisles for new products and emerging trends. She loves the entrepreneurship, creativity, and ingenuity of the food industry. Amy started her career as a morning news anchor for KUHL radio (ABC) and then as a reporter for KCOY-TV (CBS). She was the west coast correspondent for Today’s Country News (TNN) and eventually used her media skills to work in public relations. That’s where she found the food industry and life has never quite been the same. Amy graduated from UCLA with a degree in political science. Melanie graduated from the University of Western Australia with a degree in English Literature and Fine Arts. After working in documentary and film production in Australia and the UK, she moved to New York and studied film making and TV production and joined ABC News producing Lifestyle content (health, nutrition, entertainment) for 6 years; where she produced Phil’s weekly segment on ABC News Now. She then moved to Los Angeles and began producing both the Food News Today & The Lempert Report video series.

Debbie Hermele

Debora Hermele, Social Media and Research
Born and raised in Sweden, Debora moved to Los Angeles 4 years ago and graduated from California State University Northridge with a degree in Communication Studies. She has more than 9 years experience working in the entertainment industry, including a history in casting, marketing and public relations. She originally joined the Supermarket Guru team as an intern but is now full-time and manages all of the SupermarketGuru social media outlets.
