Coconuts and the various products on store shelves in their pure, unrefined state, think “extra virgin,” are thought to boost immunity, kill bacteria and yeast, and offer protection from various degenerative diseases, hydrate, and have even demonstrated no adverse effects on cholesterol levels. Coconuts and their oils have been used as a health food in many cultures for centuries, and its medium chain triglycerides are thought to be the main reason for its supposed healing properties. What about coconut water? Should you join the craze?

Here are five great and healthy reasons why you might want to consider adding coconut water to your shopping list today.

Less Fatigue. Coconut water is rich in potassium, which supports nerve and muscle function i.e. fewer cramps, less fatigue, and it helps keep blood pressure in check. When most people think potassium, they think bananas, but coconut water is just as impressive.

Vitamin C boost. Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins for immunity. Strawberries, oranges, cantaloupes, red peppers, kiwis and broccoli are also great sources. Vitamin C is also necessary for great bones, skin and hair as it helps boost collagen.

Healthy Sports Drink.
It’s low-calorie and has less sugar than sports drinks, and it's just as effective at restoring electrolyte balance. During summer and especially if you work out outside, you need to replenish electrolytes to generate more energy and keep water and fluids moving.

Clear Mind and Energy. Being hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your body, sometimes we mistake fatigue and hunger with dehydration. Grab a glass of coconut water for ultimate hydration. When you are hydrated, your body's overall water content is more balanced, which gives you more energy and supports your body's systems internally. An added bonus, hydration also gives your skin a glow, because it's moist and nourished from the inside.

Stress Relief.
Coconut water is high in B vitamins, which are known to make energy and help manage stress and anxiety. B vitamins are also key in carbohydrate metabolism, so if you want a steady supply of energy to your cells, (and who doesn’t?) B vitamins are a must!
