Ratings Criteria

With over 50,000 products in the average supermarket, people don't have the time, or the money, to test every product on the shelves and with 15,000 new products every year consumers need to know what's out there!

So Phil does the testing and the tasting for you and gives the product a rating out of 100 so you know what you can expect when you try something new!

SupermarketGuru does not sell the foods we review, nor receive any compensation from the manufacturers for reviewing or rating them.

* products that do not have any preparation will have the full value of these points included in their total score

Tru Roots Sprouted Mung Beans

This product is a HIT! If you are looking to add protein to your diet, especially if you are a vegetarian, you have got to try Tru Roots Sprouted Mung beans. The enzymes in the mung beans actually pre-digest proteins and starches which make these nutrients easier to absorb by your body. I know what you are thinking and stop crinkling up your nose, these are quite delicious and can be used in a lot of different recipes, or even just sprinkled on a salad after cooking, which by the way, takes just 5 minutes. Retails for $3.99.

Ricky and Lucy’s Country Greenhouse Afrika Meat Rub

What is Afrika, with a "K", Meat Rub? It is a bunch of different herbs and spices including lemon zest, cumin, an assortment of peppers, lots more and all grown in Nebraska. Hmmm ... guess they got the "K" from the end of Nebraska after all. Not only can you use this on meats, but also just take a teaspoon and mix it with extra virgin olive oil for a flavorful dip. Retails for $6.50.

Aurora Natural Wizard’s Mix

This product is a HIT! So if you are looking for a different kind of snack mix, one that is loaded with peanuts, Thompson Raisins, Sundrops and Yogurt Raisins, among other things, Aurora Natural Wizard’s Mix is for you. Personally I am not someone who enjoys when someone else has mixed all these things up – I like to chose what kind of nuts and sweets, but this one is a good blend of chocolate, nuts and yogurt. Surprisingly it is only 7g of fat per serving, but it does have 12g of sugars. Retails for $7.99 for 26oz.

Nabisco Wheat Thins Reduced Fat

This product is a HIT! The new Reduced Fat Wheat Thins from Nabisco taste great and have 11g of whole grains per serving – look right here, in big letters on the side of the box – NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. Although, before you get too excited, 16 crackers do contain 4g of sugars and sugar is the third ingredient. I prefer a slightly less sweet taste, but overall between the less fat, less calories and no high fructose corn syrup they create a great recipe. Retails for $3.49.

Seapoint Farms Kooloos Oven Roasted Soy Nuts and Flaxseed Original Flavor

91
This product is a HIT! To start off with, I love that this company is putting exactly how many omega 3’s right on the front of the package - 600mg per serving. These are crunchy roasted soybeans with ground flax and are a great snack. They are a little sweeter in taste than I like, but there is only 1g of sugars. For anyone who likes the crunch and mouth-feel from nuts this is a nice change of pace with much less fat. Retails for $1.99 - $2.29.
