California Chicken Recipe Contest

The California Poultry Federation has just announced they will be hosting a summer chicken recipe contest with two $2500 grand prizes and more!  Golden State consumers are proud of their California grown products especially when it comes to cooking with them.  That is why the California Poultry Federation  is looking for creative home chefs to "Cook Like a Californian" and submit original, tantalizing chicken recipes in its first annual Buy California recipe contest.  The contest will run June 15, 2003 through August 15, 2003. 

The "Cook Like a Californian" Chicken Recipe Contest gives amateur cooks a chance to showcase their culinary skills and demonstrate the versatility and ease of cooking with California grown chicken. The contest features two categories— Chicken Traditions with Flair, dishes such as roasted whole chicken, chicken and dumplings or chicken salad with a surprising flair; and Chicken with an Ethnic Twist, like Thai, Cuban and Spanish dishes with bold flavors and colors that make a meal exciting. Two $2500 Grand Prizes will be awarded—one in each category.  Second prize in each category is $500; and third prize in each category is $250. The potential to win more than the $2500 first place prize increases if the winning recipes include one or more of the following bonus ingredients: California avocados, peaches, plums or nectarines, table grapes, tomatoes, pears, and canned cling peaches. These other Buy California members will sweeten the pot by $500 each. All winners will receive plush versions of those famous wanna-be Foster Farms chickens, the Foster Imposters and gifts from Petaluma Poultry, home of Rocky the Range Chicken.
