Burger King Finds Low-Carb Religion
Published on: January 17, 2004
Burger King has joined the low-carbohydrate parade, marching in lock-step with the other fast food chains and quick serve restaurants that are offering meals acceptable to people using the Atkins Diet and its brethren.
Saying in a new slogan that "it is a new way to have it your way," Burger King has begun selling bunless hamburgers, selling the meat in plastic salad bowls, with knife and fork. In addition, the chain is making Whopper meals available with salads instead of fries, and water instead of soda. The company is recommending that franchisees sell the variations for the same price as the kind that comes with bread, fries and soft drinks…though it notes that it cannot control what franchise owners do.
In addition, Burger Kind plans to roll out a new line of salads that feature chicken, shrimp and steak, probably costing below $4.
