Heinz: Tomato Ketchup Blended with Real Jalapeno
Blended with Real Jalapeno
Heinz is really trying to excite our taste buds and frankly I like the concept. And I almost like the taste, but that is where it ends. One tablespoon of this limited edition ketchup has 4 grams of sugars, coming from both the high fructose corn syrup and corn syrup in the ingredients. On the front of the label in big letters it says 'Real Jalapeño', but in the ingredients in little letters the last ingredient listed is 'dehydrated jalapeño' , which follows bell pepper concentrate and onion powder. The ketchup itself looks exactly the same, perhaps slightly darker than regular Heinz ketchup. And needless to say there's no visible sign of bell or jalapeño peppers. The taste is a little too sweet, but it does have a nice spicy burn.

Glutino : Gluten Free Snack Crackers
Sea Salt
Over the past year we've seen a lot of good gluten free products come to market. Surprisingly so this is not one of them - and it's surprising since Glutino has a lot of very tasty products on the market. When I tasted this cracker the only flavor is that of the oil and I tasted absolutely none of the sea salt. A recipe of 3 different rice flours, brown sugar, sesame seeds, flax, quinoa and amaranth misses the mark. 11 crackers are 150 calories, 6 grams of fat and 3 grams of protein.

Vino de Milo: Creamy Vodka Parmesan Pasta Sauce
Creamy Vodka Parmesan Pasta Sauce
This product is a HIT!
I'm a huge fan of arrabiata sauce, but I've never had one that is a combination with a garlic, vodka, cream sauce. It made my tongue happy. Smoother and obviously creamier than a straight arrabiata, but with all that spicy heat. I could see how this sauce would make pasta, seafood, chicken and even sauteed vegetables terrific. The recipe starts off with diced tomatoes and just gets better from there. I love the fact that they identify the local sourcing for cream and garlic vodka, but what about the tomatoes? Where do they come from?

Swanson: Swanson Flavor Boost
Seafood
This product is a HIT!
The Millennial Generation is all about flavor and easy to prepare foods at home. This is perfect for them. Just add 1 packet, which is a little less than 1/2 ounce, to your recipe and this will add an authentic seafood flavor. The recipe base is tomato puree with spices, sugar, pollack and other natural seafood flavorings. It is high in sodium - 830 mg - and it is convenient, but I'm just wondering if you wouldn't be better off sautéing in some fresh garlic and olive oil and adding your own spices.

Better Bean: Bean Spread
Wholly Chipotle Bean Dip Chipotle Lime
This product is a HIT!
As we get more sophisticated palates the good news is that there are companies out there who are focused on making delicious, convenient and very tasty foods. This bean dip is one of those products. An ounce of this dip, about 2 tablespoons, is just 35 calories, 1 gram of fat and 2 grams of protein. The taste and texture are terrific, however I don't taste a lot of chipotle. I do get a nice clean and slow burn from the jalapeños, but not much from the chipotle. This is a really delicious product.
