Nasoya: Pasta Zero
Spaghetti
This product is a MISS!
If you are up for some experimentation this is a product to try. This so-called "pasta" is made from water, potato starch, konjac flour (which is a starchy plant often used in Japanese cuisine), and chick pea flour. The taste is very un pasta-like and the mouth-feel is very gelatinous. One 8 ounce package is just 40 calories and 8 grams of carbs. With all the good better-tasting gluten free pastas out there now, frankly I'm not sure I could recommend this. What I also don't like is the fact that they have changed the front of the packaging labeling away from the standard system to fit their own needs - so that they can show 4 zeros - zero fat, zero egg, zero gluten and zero dairy.

Kraft : Miracle Whip
Sassy Sweet Tomato
Before you crinkle up your nose at the idea of a Spicy Sweet Tomato Miracle Whip you've got to taste this. Yes it's a little too sweet, but the blend of spices, dried garlic and dried onions actually masks that, for some, familiar taste of Miracle Whip. Now I'm not saying I would go out buy it and stock this in my refrigerator, or use it every day, but it was better than expected. 2 tablespoons are 150 calories and 14 grams of fat, so go sparingly. And remember, sugar is the second ingredient - but at least it's sugar and not high fructose corn syrup.

Pyure : Organic Stevia Sweetener
Individual Packets
This product is a HIT!
Stevia, stevia, stevia! Everywhere you look there's a new stevia coming on the market. This one is certified organic and is actually blended with agave fiber, or inulin. It is very sweet - sweeter than most stevias and unlike some, has no bitter aftertaste. My recommendation is to start out using a half a package and sweeten to taste. Each packet will run you a little over a dime.

Off the Cob: Sweet Corn Tortilla Chips
Lightly Salted
This product is a HIT!
Here's a new take on the tortilla chip. Made from a recipe of organic yellow corn, organic white corn and sweet corn with oil, sugar and spices, this chip is much sweeter and less salty than you're probably used to. The front of the package in big letters says 'Sweet Corn' twice - I find that a tiny bit misleading since there's less sweet corn than yellow and white corn in the ingredients. What I do like is the corn comes from small family farms and the chips are crispy and don't taste oily at all.

Cush's Homegrown: Cush's Homegrown Salsa
Pineapple
This product is a HIT!
When I first opened the jar I didn't know what to expect. The salsa is a bit more thin than I like, but one taste convinced me that this is one of the best fruit salsas I've ever had. And look at this ingredient list - just tomatoes, pineapple, peppers, onions, honey, spices and garlic; no water and no sugars added - terrific recipe and it's actually packaged in an authentic Mason jar, just like my grandmother used to use. Seriously this is one fabulous salsa - it has just the right amount of spicy kick.
