Each week we review a food related app. This week it’s foodtweeks™ – find out what The Lempert Report thought.

What it says it does: Discover easy ways to remove calories from your everyday foods. The app aims to help feed hungry families in your community every time you do. How do most of us manage our weight? By making small changes to our food. Use less dressing. Skip the mayo. And so on. foodtweeks™ makes this easier than ever. The free app shows you small changes people love and are worth making. No tracking, no programs, no foods you don't want.

What it actually does: Enter your foods or meals into foodtweeks™, and the app shows you simple “tweeks” that remove a handful of calories from that food. Choose the tweek you like best, and you are on your way to making positive changes to your diet.

To add to that, every time you remove calories from your food, the app makes a donation to a local food bank so they can distribute the same number of nutritious calories to feed a family. Double or triple the donation by telling your friends and family on Facebook and Twitter.

How useful is the information for target audience?: foodtweeks™ gives some great real time and fantastic food swaps. Making lasagna for example, here are some suggestions: use half ricotta half cottage cheese, don’t use the middle layers of pasta, add spinach as a layer instead of one of the cheese layers, and don’t put extra cheese on top. All tweaks will still allow you to enjoy the lasagna; they just make it healthier!

Ease of use: The app is very easy to use and search.

Who would best benefit from the app?Anyone looking to lighten up their diet or recipes. foodtweeks™ offers some great swaps that home cooks don’t always think about or feel comfortable doing.
