Each week we review a food related app. This week it’s Green Egg Shopper – find out what the Lempert Report thought.
What it says it does: Reduce food waste by never missing 'use by' dates. A comprehensive shopping list app with solid built in features to let users manage shopping lists, reduce food waste, watch expenses, and avoid overbuying. Helps save money, food, and environment in three simple steps. Create a shopping list with Green Egg Shopper. While you shop, 'tick off' items in the list or set 'use by' date (for perishables). View a list of items near expiry, anytime. Check the 'Use Me Now' list before planning meals.
What it actually does:Green Egg Shopper helps shoppers reduce food waste by keeping track of best by/expiration dates and providing alerts as determined by the user. The app is also a great shopping list tool, and users can separate items by store as well as take photos of items so that if someone unfamiliar with the shopping list is doing the shopping, they will know exactly what to purchase. In addition to helping save on food waste, the app also reminds you to use your coupons and vouchers – saving you money! Users can even track expenses and keep track of the price of the items purchased. Never be fooled by "discounts" and "markdowns" again.
How useful is the information for target audience?: The app is useful for helping keeping track of what’s needed when grocery shopping, and if shopping several stores, the app can keep track of what to buy where – inputting the info into the app is the only hurdle to overcome.
Ease of use: The app is easy to use, items are simple to search and add to the list. Specifics about foods are also easy to input, so users can keep track of their shopping with the tap of a finger. Lists can also be archived and thus do not need to be created from scratch every time you shop. Saving time as well as money!
Who would best benefit from the app?: The app is great for those who are looking to save on food, money and don’t want to waste foods. And who doesn’t want to do that?
