Grubhub’s report looked at trends across the more than half a million orders placed a day and reports on the popular food trends to date and what quarantined Americans ordered through contact-free delivery, and – most importantly - predicts what we can expect to see more of in the second half of the year.
A chorizo burrito was 270% more popular for breakfast, a cheesy breadstick snack 412% more popular, a plant-based burger 291% more popular, and meal kit orders rose 55%).
Now remember these sales are based soley on Grubhub’s platform but it is based on a lot of actual orders across the US.
2019 gave us the chicken sandwich war, and in 2020 it raged on as chain and independent restaurants added the sandwich to their menus for diners to enjoy. The spicy chicken sandwich saw a nearly 300% rise in popularity this year.

•iced latte: 261% more popular
•chili: 228% more popular
•cinnamon roll: 205% more popular
•chimichanga: 195% more popular
•beef burrito: 181% more popular
•potato taco: 169% more popular
Not one healthy item on the list – but when we break it down by city vs national - New York City was a winner with the “Blend”: the Mushroom burger was 150% more popular. And in Atlanta: Plant-based burgers were 147% more popular.
What do they predict will be hot for this fall? Miso tofu bowl, quinoa taco salad, mushroom burger, cajun wing and buffalo chicken empanadas.
