Target Gets Into Holiday Mode

Target is stepping up its holiday season efforts, find out how, next!

Summer is officially over, and that means retailers are in full holiday mode! Retail giant Target is the latest to step up with its plan for the festive season: price matching! In anticipation of a tough holiday season, Target will begin, for the first time, matching prices online of major rivals like Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy and Macy’s.

Previously, Target’s price matching has been limited to their physical stores, with customers allowed to get a price adjustment within a week if they saw a better price on Amazon, or at the online stores of Walmart, Best Buy, Toys R Us and Babies R Us. But now, shoppers on target.com can also get a price match. Why the change? Because it’s a reflection of how customers shop today. The idea is to offer shoppers the same policy regardless of what platform they use to shop, whether online or in-store.

While Target’s policy is actually now supposed to be a permanent policy, its launch on the eve of holiday season shows that retailers are looking to get more aggressive than ever.  And it’s a good reminder for supermarkets that they are not immune to such competition. With places like Target and Walmart increasing their grocery departments, supermarkets can’t afford to get left behind in the holiday race. Supermarkets should start looking at fall themed displays and promotions and holiday recipes and deals. And most importantly? Remember the customers that like to shop online! Offer the same deals and promotions online and in store, make sure your customers get good prices and convenience no matter which platform they use.
