Who are the Nation’s Favorite Supermarkets?

According to FMI, there are more than 38,000 supermarkets in the U.S. and 25,000 are conventional or traditional markets offering a full line of groceries, meat, and produce, and generating annual sales of at least $2 million.

Last year, a team of business school researchers at Washington University in St. Louis found that  83% of shoppers regularly visited between four and nine stores for groceries over a 12-month period underscoring how non-loyal shoppers are these days to a particular chain.

24/7 Tempo assembled a list of the most popular grocery stores around the country, based on the number of Yelp reviews they've received and the overall scores Yelp users have given them. While Yelp is not the end all be all – or even some may argue not as survey science based as the popular Consumer Reports two times a year supermarket survey, there are lessons to be learned by reading the reviews from actual shoppers – what they like and don’t like about your stores.
 
24/7 Tempo compiled this list by considering the total number of Yelp reviews and the cumulative scores given to almost 350 of the most popular supermarkets and other grocery stores around the country.
