The App Review: SideChef

Each week we review a food related app. This week it’s SideChef: Step-by-step cooking – find out what The Lempert Report thought.

What it says it does: SideChef makes learning to cook accessible, easy, and fun at any skill level by giving you step-by-step photos, instructions, and voice commands. It also makes every step easily shareable, from browsing recipes to purchasing ingredients to celebrating the final meal. SideChef is made to welcome novice cooks to the kitchen and to help intermediate and advanced cooks hone skills and share their own creations.

What it actually does: Search for recipes based on ingredients on-hand. With over 1,000 step by step recipes, you’ll find it hard to get bored! And the app keeps track of what you’ve cooked in the My Table feature. In addition to the step-by-step cooking and preparing instructions, there are over a hundred new ingredient-specific videos. For example, video on how to supreme grapefruit, julienne carrots, and the proper way to mince an onion right when you need it.

How useful is the information for target audience?: The app is great for cooks of all levels. With featured recipes from new and notable chefs and bloggers, there is something for everyone.

Ease of use: The app is very easy to use and has several handy features: integrated timers, responds to voice commands for hands-free cooking and easy conversion -  users can change the serving size and all of the ingredients will adjust automatically.
