New York is on sodium watch and researchers have found one more great reason to eat an apple a day!
NEW YORK FIGHTS SODIUM
New York is getting strict with sodium! The cities health officials unanimously voted recently that all chain restaurants must add a warning label to menu items that contain more than the daily recommended amount of sodium. The rule requires that restaurants add a salt-shaker symbol next to food items containing more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium, which is the maximum daily amount advised by U.S. health officials.
AN APPLE A DAY!
Forget the Doctor, according to a new study an apple a day could keep old age away! Researchers from the University Of Iowa Carver College Of Medicine found that the peels of the apple could slow down the muscle tissue breakdown associated with aging. By feeding apple peels to mice, they discovered that it reduced levels of the protein ATF4 in the body, a protein that's largely responsible for the breakdown of muscle tissue.
