Teens also need to pay more attention to this ingredient... not what you think. And don't forget to hide your food.
STARBUCKS GOES EXPRESS!
Starbucks is catering to time poor customers by opening its first ever "express format" store! Just last week in Manhattan a pilot store opened and according to the Starbucks press release it's the "espresso shot" version of a normal Starbucks store. At 538 square feet this standing room only store has an edited menu, and orders are taken on a handheld device. Starbucks hopes to add four more express format stores in New York City this year, but it left us wondering, how much time will this really save us? And do we really need to save those extra few minutes? I guess we'll have to see how "express" they really are.
TEENAGERS: FORGET THE SALT, FOCUS ON POTASSIUM INSTEAD!
According to a new study published in JAMA Pediatrics, teenagers don't need to spend so much time worrying about lowering their salt intake, just focus on potassium instead! The study tracked the eating habits and blood pressure of 2,185, 9 and 10 year-old girls for up to 10 years. Results showed that sodium intake had no long-term effect on the girls’ blood pressure. However, they did find that girls who ate diets high in potassium throughout adolescence had lower blood pressure than girls who ate fewer potassium-rich foods.
WANT TO EAT LESS? KEEP FOOD OUT OF SIGHT!
Apparently the old saying, out of sight out of mind, works wonders when it comes to dieting. A new study published in the International Journal of Obesity, states that when it comes to food, seeing is eating. The study involved 100 volunteers aged 20 to 78 and of these participants, half were obese and the other half were normal weight, apparently the research showed that those who kept food in plain sight around the house were more likely to be obese!
