It’s All About the FOOD at the Potato Expo!

The Lempert Report
February 10, 2017

This is the kind of trade event that adds excitement to the industry and reminds us that it is all about the food!

Do you have a passion for potatoes? I do, and one of the highlights of my year is meeting the contestants and hosting the Spud Nation Throwdown at the Potato Expo. The 2017 Spud Nation Throwdown, held this year in San Francisco, was an exciting fusion of tastes, cultures and flavors as a diverse group of international chefs incorporated potatoes into dishes inspired by their distinctive culinary experiences.

The 2nd annual competition showcased exciting recipes with unique takes that blended traditional Asian and Western foods. Four chefs were selected from around the globe, and were all known for their creative takes on using potatoes in their local cuisine. All are accomplished chefs and competition winner, cookbook authors, TV and radio hosts and Top Chef winners. The chefs competing in the 2017 Spud Nation Throwdown were Tony de Graaf from Taiwan with Potato Involtini with Taiwanese Sausage, Doris Goldgewicht from Costa Rica with Potato Picadillo, Ian Kittichai for Thailand with his Beef Massaman Curry., and Wandy Robles from the Dominican Republic with Potato Mofongo

And the 2017 top spud is IanKittichai!
