Gain their attention in the social media space and you'll gain their trust.

If you're looking to appeal to millennials, you might want to forego your typical advertising and work with social networking and the digital world instead.

According to new research from The McCarthy Group 84 percent of millennials “don’t like or trust all forms of advertising.” When asked to rate how much they trust advertising on a scale of 1 to 5, respondents (136 people, ages 18 to 34) gave an average answer of 2.2.

So who do they trust? Their friends!  This group gave their peers on average a trust rating of 4 on that same scale. Millennials also think highly of social and digital media, with 57 percent of respondents answering positively about those platforms. A distant second behind digital technology is television at 20 percent.

For supermarkets this can be helpful when looking to pin down the millennial group. Use social media: a millennial for example, may be more inclined to pay attention to retailers with a large Facebook and twitter presence.  And make sure you are on all digital platforms.  Us them as a way to offer deals and specials and also advertise in store events. Gain their attention in the social media space and you'll gain their trust.
