Introducing Retail Plate: The Only Magazine Dedicated to Foodservice at Retail

Co-founded by retail and grocery media veterans Korry Stagnito and Phil Lempert, Retail Plate serves the executives running the fastest-growing segment in food retail — a $130+ billion market, including $52 billion at grocery alone.

Retail & Hospitality Hub and SupermarketGuru.com announce the launch of Retail Plate, a new B2B digital magazine dedicated exclusively to foodservice at retail — the category encompassing prepared food programs at supermarkets, convenience stores, mass merchandisers, club stores, and specialty food retailers.

Retail Plate is built specifically for the executives who run these programs — VPs of Foodservice, Deli Directors, Fresh Merchandising leads, category managers, and C-suite decision-makers across North American retail, and the technology, food, and services companies that supply them.

The Preview Issue, available now, showcases the editorial direction and sponsorship opportunities ahead of Retail Plate's full launch. It includes Phil Lempert's take on San Francisco's new cannabis café ordinance and what it signals about the fight for the dinner hour, and a guest view from veteran retail editor Jim Dudlicek on how leading grocery operators are turning prepared food programs into community destinations.

The Market Opportunity
Retail foodservice is one of the fastest-growing segments in American food retail. Roughly one in four shoppers have already swapped a restaurant visit for a grocery store meal, per McKinsey's State of Grocery North America report, and 28% now do so regularly, more than double the share in 2017, per the Food Industry Association. Convenience store foodservice alone is projected to reach $78.1 billion in 2026, according to Mintel.

Yet the executives running these programs have had no dedicated media resources -- until now.

The magazine also retires an industry term: “grocerant,” the decades-old shorthand that means little to shoppers and undersells the category's scale.

"For too long, the executives running foodservice programs at thousands of retail chains have had nowhere to turn for real industry intelligence," said Korry Stagnito, Co-Founder of Retail Plate. "They deserve a publication built specifically for them, and now they have one."

“Prepared food at retail is the most exciting growth category in food right now,” said Phil Lempert, Co-Founder of Retail Plate. “Shoppers have changed. They're choosing the in-store hot bar over the fast-casual restaurant across the parking lot — and they're doing it more often every year. The retailers who understand that shift and invest in their programs accordingly are winning. Retail Plate gives them the intelligence to win faster.”
