The App Review: BigOven

June 26, 2015

Each week we review a food related app. This week it’s BigOven 350,000+ Recipes and Grocery List – find out what The Lempert Report thought.

What it says it does: Take over 350,000 recipes, your grocery list, and menu planner anywhere. BigOven is the most complete tool to help home cooks get inspired and organized in the kitchen and on-the-go. In addition to a grocery list tool, the app also features a menu planner where you can share your menu plan via email and you’ll have it printed off and up on your refrigerator in minutes.

What it actually does: Menus are curated by season, holiday, course, lifestyle, diet, and more. Read reviews and ratings by fellow home cooks to help you decide what’s for dinner. You can even store all your recipes in one place. Save favorites and recipes to try. Add personal recipes or clip from your favorite sites. Grocery shopping made smart and easy. BigOven will convert your recipes into a simple list, sorted alphabetically and by department. In addition you’ll waste less - use up what’s in your fridge. Type in up to three ingredients, and BigOven will show you what you can make.

How useful is the information for target audience?: The app is extremely useful for any home cook who wonders what to prepare day after day. Or someone who is just looking for inspiration for a dinner party or side dish to bring to a friends house.

Ease of use: BigOven is very easy to use, search is clear and saving recipes is easy as one click. Adding items to the menu plan and grocery list is also a cinch.

Who would best benefit from the app?: Anyone looking to liven up the meals in their house, add variety to a mundane repertoire, populate a grocery list with ease and/or waste less food!
